The first online forum “World Quality Day 2020” was held on November 12-13. The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, RusQuality, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) and the Federal Service for Accreditation (Rosakkreditation) and supported by EOQ (European organization for Quality).
185 leading experts in the field of quality from Russia, Great Britain, USA, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Serbia, Israel, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Finland, representatives of international organizations: UNIDO, the European Organization for Quality, the Asia-Pacific Organization for Quality took part in the business program.
The plenary session “Sustainable Development: Challenges and Trends” opened the Forum. The participants were greeted by Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Matvienko noted that the issues of quality of goods, processes and services improvement, insurance of human safety and fight for environment quality, satisfaction needs of citizens are the most important goals of the real sector of the economy.
Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation stressed: “Improving the quality of life is the first priority of the state. Therefore, it is important not only to improve operational and production efficiency, but also to maintain a focus on continuous improvement and social responsibility in order to remain competitive in the current environment and act for the long term”.
“The Ministry of Industry and Trade plans to introduce sustainable development practices into corporate policies of enterprises. An expert council on sustainable development has already been created” said Alexey Besprozvannykh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia
Alexey Khersonsev, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation presented achievements of sustainable development goals in terms of economic policy in the field of quality
Maxim Protasov, Head of RusQuality and EOQ Vice-President, spoke about RusQuality’s contribution to achieving sustainable development goals and key projects – Award in the field of quality of the Government of the Russian Federation, The National Quality Mark of Russia operated by RusQuality, the business portal Kachestvo.pro, the RusQuality Academy and other initiatives.
The honor guest of the Forum Torolf Paulschus, the President of EOQ shared the experience of the organization’s measures to mitigate the consequences Pandemic
Other international experts also presented their reports: Bernardo Calzadilla-Sarmiento, Managing Director of the UNIDO Department of Digitalization, Technology and Innovation, spoke about the critical role of quality and standards in the fight against COVID-19, Mangalica de Silva, President of the Asia-Pacific Organization for Quality, reported on the quality and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in her region.
Over 20 thematic sessions were held during two days of the forum. Events focused on Production systems development, Digitalization, Health care, Education, Food safety, Light and textile industry development, Tourism, State service and others.
Forum’s audience exceeded 14,000 participants – quality specialists from 21 countries.

The second Tuesday of November each year World Quality Day is celebrated around the world. The holiday was established in 1989 at the initiative of the European Organization for Quality (EOQ) with the support of the United Nations. In 2020, this holiday fell on November 12.
